Jakarta – The Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), in collaboration with the Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance Base (PSDKP) and the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Agency, has intensified the monitoring of fishing vessels in Jakarta’s waters.

This supervision aims to preserve marine and fisheries resources while ensuring that fishing businesses comply with administrative regulations and existing laws.

The Head of the Marine Division at the Jakarta KPKP Agency, Imam Fitrianto, revealed that during February 2025, his team inspected 19 fishing vessels from Jakarta, Banten, and West Java.

“Of the 19 vessels inspected, 12 from Jakarta were found to be compliant with regulations. However, seven vessels from Banten and West Java were caught using unauthorized fishing gear, such as pocketed seine nets,” he explained on Monday (March 3).

Vessels found violating the rules were given guidance and instructed to replace their fishing gear according to regulations. Additionally, these vessels were directed to return to their respective home ports.

This monitoring effort is based on Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 36 of 2023, which governs the placement of fishing gear in designated fishing zones. It also refers to Law No. 45 of 2009, which amends Law No. 31 of 2004 on Fisheries.

“We urge fishermen to always carry complete and valid documentation and to comply with all applicable regulations,” Imam added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Agency, Nurliati, emphasized that these monitoring operations are conducted monthly in the waters of North and South Thousand Islands.

“Through this monitoring, we can protect marine and fisheries resources from harmful fishing practices,” she concluded.
