South Kepulauan Seribu – A ferry-type vessel, KM. Subur Makmur, experienced a rudder failure while sailing in the waters of Pulau Tikus, South Kepulauan Seribu, on Thursday night (March 6). The vessel, which departed from Muarasaban Cituis Port, was left drifting at sea before a joint rescue team successfully evacuated it to Pulau Lancang.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM local time as the vessel was en route to Kepulauan Seribu. According to reports, information about the rudder damage was first received by Aipda Hendra, an officer from Pospol Pari, who was alerted by an on-duty firefighter (Damkar).

“We received a report that the ship’s rudder bolt had broken in the waters of Pulau Tikus. After coordinating with the evacuation team, we immediately moved to the location,” said one of the rescue officers involved in the operation.

The vessel was commanded by Captain Yakub, a resident of Pulau Panggang, North Kepulauan Seribu, with three crew members (ABK) and five passengers onboard. The passengers included Maskur (fisherman), Kasinan (fisherman), Rahmi (student), Dalih (vegetable vendor), and Oji (civil servant from Pulau Panggang Subdistrict).

The rescue team, consisting of personnel from Pulau Pari Police Subsector, Pulau Lancang Police Subsector, Bhabinkamtibmas, Pulau Pari and Pulau Lancang Firefighters, Pulau Pari Babinsa, and the Pulau Pari Transportation Agency, arrived at the scene at around 8:55 PM.

“Due to unfavorable weather conditions and high waves, the ship had to be evacuated to Pulau Lancang as the nearest safe point,” explained one of the evacuation team members.

An eyewitness, Irfan Hadi Syopandi, a firefighter from Pulau Untung Jawa, confirmed that all passengers were safe following the successful evacuation.

Authorities have now coordinated with relevant agencies, compiled an incident report, and continue to monitor the condition of the ship and its passengers to ensure their safety.
