Pulau Kelapa – A cargo ship named KM Mellina sank in the waters off Pulau Dua, North Thousand Islands, on Friday (March 14). The ship, which was sailing from Pontianak, was crewed by three people, including one captain and two crew members. They are currently waiting for evacuation assistance.
In response to the incident, the head of Pulau Kelapa village, Muslim, along with local police and village staff, has taken direct action to provide logistical support to the affected crew members.
“We have delivered food aid to assist the needs of the crew who are facing this disaster,” Muslim stated.
Additionally, the condition of the vessel, which is half-submerged, is being monitored by a joint team, including the regional fire department, the local transportation agency, and public order officers.
“At the moment, the crew is still waiting for assistance from the ground team for the evacuation or towing of the ship,” added Sahrijal, a local police officer from Pulau Kelapa.
Authorities are continuing to coordinate to determine the next steps for handling the stranded cargo ship.
